Welcome to Listoscope
Hello and welcome to Listoscope, the central list database edited by you!
Listoscope aims to be a one-stop shop for factual lists of all varieties. Over time, we hope to create a comprehensive database of lists across all subject areas, from History and Politics to Sport, Business, Science and more.
Anyone can edit a Listoscope article and no special qualification is required. If you have the facts at your disposal and can attribute them accordingly, please start creating pages now!
A typical Listoscope article
In its basic form, each Listoscope article contains four sections:
"List name" - Without a list, there is no article. Lists can be of any length and cover any topic.
Comments – Additional facts or points of interest concerning the list in question.
References – Notes on and links to all the source materials used in the compilation of the article.
External links – Links to other resources relating to the page content, such as websites, books, articles etc.
Users can use the tabs above an article to discuss, edit, watch and view the editing history for that page.
The way wikis work
Listoscope is a wiki, and as such its articles are never complete. They can be continually edited and (hopefully) improved over time, resulting in a growing depth and accuracy of information. Users should be aware that articles may contain false or debatable information, particularly at first. This might be because editors have contributed content in which they have a vested interest, or it might be that they lack a thorough understanding of the subject matter in hand. Over time, additional editors will revise and expand articles to achieve balanced and comprehensive coverage.
NB: All the content in a Listoscope article should really be factual, so difference of opinion should be rare. If an article is provoking great debate and disagreement, this may well be an indication that it is not actually suitable for inclusion on Listoscope at all.
Important things to know about Listoscope
1. All Listoscope articles should be 100% factual in content. The site aims eventually to become a comprehensive database for factual lists, so please don't post lists which are based on personal opinion or lists of "favourites".
2. Listoscope is not a blog, webspace provider or social networking site - please use it as it is intended and not as a soapbox for personal broadcast.
3. Listoscope is also not a directory or collection of external links to other websites. Without a list, there is no Listoscope article.
4. All content on Listoscope can be freely reproduced and distributed under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License. Follow the link at the bottom of this and every page for more details.
